Community Workshops provide space and time for exploration, deep dives, and passion projects. Think of it as a "mini camp" just for Ursuline students, current parents, alumnae, parents of alumnae, and employees. Space is limited!

Conversational German

Would you like to speak German? Join the Conversational German Workshop to learn, practice, and build your skills! Whether you are a beginner preparing for travel, connecting with your heritage, or seeking opportunities to practice speaking and listening, you'll find a supportive community here. Instructor Roxana Casco, Chair of Ursuline's World Languages faculty will be your guide in this fun, very interactive workshop.

Wish you could speak Spanish with ease? Join the Conversational Spanish Workshop to build your skills! Instructor Scarlette Vargas, a member of Ursuline's World Languages faculty will be your guide in this fun, very interactive workshop.

Introduction to Podcasting 

Do you have a passion project or family history project you want to undertake in audio form? Do you want to grow your business’s presence on social media through a new format? Learn how to create your own podcast in this introductory and interactive workshop. We will explore narrative and interview format shows, covering all levels of podcast production including content creation, recording, editing, and sharing your work through podcast directories. No previous podcasting experience is necessary. Personal computer required. Please see suggested software below. Instructor Caitlin Rathe has worked as a producer and researcher on long-form narrative podcasts for 4 years. 

Software needed:

  • Audacity – audio editing software, free
  • – transcription software, free basic version for individual use
  • Music – individual out of pocket expense

Lab Skills for STEM Careers

The heart of scientific discovery is testing a hypothesis through experimentation and knowing how to perform standard lab techniques is a vital part of collecting data.  Many STEM careers require good lab skills and having prior experience can be a great addition to any application.  This Lab Skills Workshop will focus on learning three fundamental lab techniques: calorimetry, colorimetry, and titrations.  Each session will have two components, hands on experience in the lab and an in-depth discussion of the applications for each lab technique.

Are you interested in bettering your penmanship and creating artfully written masterpieces? Join Instructor Andrea Pujol for the Calligraphy Workshop! We will work with brush pens and other writing tools to learn the basics of brush, serif, and sans serif lettering. Projects will include cardmaking, placecards for table settings, and quotes and signs for gifting or decorating your next event! Pens will be available to share, but you may also bring your own. We suggest Tombow Fudenosuke Pens 3-pk for finer brushstrokes, and Tombow Dual Brush Pens 10-pk for broader brushstrokes.

Make something beautiful in the Woodworking Workshop! Learn the art and craft of woodworking as you make a one-of-a-kind cutting board or charcuterie board. You'll design, cut, glue, and finish your own work while learning how to use both hand and power tools. Create one for yourself, or for a Mother's or Father's Day gift! Must register by March 15.

Bouquets & Boutonnieres 

Join Visual Arts Teacher and former event florist Sarah Kennedy for an afternoon Prom Workshop learning how to create a small hand-tied bouquet and floral boutonniere perfect for any UA dance (Sadie Hawkins Dance and Prom are right around the corner)! All floral supplies will be provided, and workshop attendees will leave with one hand-tied bouquet and floral boutonniere or corsage. Must register by March 23.

Podcasting 2 

Are your podcasting skills ready for the next level? Whether you've taken Introduction to Podcasting, or have dabbled on your own, the Podcasting 2 Workshop will take you through the next steps of creating, editing, and publishing your original work.

Mother’s Day One-Stop Workshop!

Create a one-of-a-kind collection of hand-crafted gifts for your mom, grandmother, or any truly special person at this amazing trifecta of creative opportunities, the Mother's Day One-Stop Workshop! Come with a family member to make memories while creating gifts for someone special! Make one, two, or all three of these unique gifts while coached by the experts. Must register by May 4.

  • Fresh Florals – Arrange a fragrant gift of flowers and greenery in a vase to brighten someone’s day! Guided by award-winning faculty member and Floral Design Workshop instructor Sarah Kennedy. 
  • Sweet Treats – Make a gourmet gift that will satisfy their sweet tooth. Guided by Food Service Director and Cooking Workshop instructor Chef Chad Nielsen. 
  • Hand-lettered Cards – Use fine papers and specialty pens to hand-letter a beautiful card to accompany your gifts, straight from the heart! Guided by Junior Grade Dean and Calligraphy Workshop instructor Andrea Pujol.
Thursday, May 11 | 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. (come and go format)
Register for the workshop, then the supplies for each gift you wish to make. Allow 30-45 minutes per activity. Demonstrations at 4:30, 5:15, and 6:00.
