Ursuline couldn't have started the week any better.
The Bears defeated district rival John Paul II 1-0 Monday on their home field.
"I'm so proud of this team and our school," Coach Auggie Trevino said. "Our girls left everything on the field, and our fans were absolutely amazing. If you weren't there, boy did you miss out."
Katie Gay scored the game's only goal in the second half. Ursuline defeated John Paul II in last year's state title game. It was Ursuline's 27th TAPPS state title in 28 years.
The Bears travel to Bishop Lynch on Thursday, December 13.
Ursuline — and Anna Murray — are on a roll.
The Bears (7-5) went 2-2 in the Hwy 5 Classic with wins over RL Turner and Woodrow Wilson, and they topped Home School Athletic Association on Monday. Anna, a senior guard, reached her season high —30 points — against Woodrow Wilson and HSAA.
Danielle Pryzbylski also recorded a season-high 18 points against RL Turner. Bridget O'Neil recorded key rebounds late against HSAA.
"Every player on the roster has made an impact in each game, whether as a starter or bench player," Coach Nikki Nester said. "This has been huge contributor to our success so far this season."
Hello winning streak!
The Bears have won seven games in a row. They went undefeated in the Melissa High School Tournament last week.
Ursuline topped Plano Williams 59-2 Tuesday. Lilly Schroeder scored 14 points in the first quarter alone. Addie O'Connor's blocks and Isabella Martinez's steals sparked the defense.
"When our team is focused and looking to make stops on defense, we are unstoppable," Coach Caelie Dunn said.
Dasha Ramey also had a team-best 10 points in Ursuline's win over Shelton. Becca Loera was also strong in the paint.
