Soccer Coach Darrin Hedges Selected as Region Coach of the Year

Ursuline’s Soccer Coach, Darrin Hedges, has been selected as a United Soccer Coaches Region Coach of the Year and is a finalist for National Coach of the Year.

To him, this award is a team effort.

“I’ve had a great team all the way from the players to the coaches to the support staff, including athletic trainers, athletic administration, and academic administration,” he said.

He attributes his coaching skills to his own great coaches from when he was a soccer player.

“I’ve been mentored by some of the best coaches in the nation,” Coach Hedges reflected. “I can never thank these role models enough.”

As a coach, he’s always strived to be a “player’s” coach, not just a soccer coach. He tries to live his coaching philosophy in this priority order: God, family, education, career, and then soccer.

This is his first season as Ursuline’s Head Soccer Coach, and he’s enjoyed getting to know all the new players and coaches.

“So far, we are playing well,” he notes. “By that, I mean we are playing the game the right way – it’s not just about the wins.”

Congratulations Coach Hedges and Go Bears!
