Five Questions with Maddie Davis '24

Maddie Davis '24 is ranked 6th in DFW for number of 3-pointer shots made!

Her first team was a recreation team through Plano Sports Authority when she was just four-years-old. She fell in love with the sport, and now 11 years later, is Point Guard for the Ursuline Varsity BasketBEARS.

We caught up with Maddie for a Q&A. Here's what she had to say:

What has been your favorite basketball moment this year?

My favorite basketball moment this year was making a half court buzzer beater before halftime at my first Varsity game as a Freshman against Nolan Catholic.

What are some personal goals you've made this season?

  • Be a starter on varsity.
  • Get a double double (double digits in points and assists or rebounds).
  • Score a minimum of 20-points per game.
  • Be an ultimate team player and help UA win.

Who is your favorite athlete?

My favorite athlete is the Point Guard that plays for UCONN, Paige Bueckers. I have been watching her play for about a year and she is a very competitive and talented guard who inspires me to be the best that I can be.

What do you think you have improved on this season?

Although the season isn’t over yet, I think I have significantly improved on my defense. My confidence has also improved and continues to grow every single game. It’s taken a little time to adjust to Varsity’s playing style and pace of play, but I feel like I have really began to gel with my team and work to find open shots for both myself and my teammates.

Finally, what are your tips for making those three-pointers?!

First, I love to visualize my shots. I also know I have to put in a minimum of two hours a day on my game - shooting and ball handling. It takes 10,000 hours minimum to perfect something and I am committed to working hard toward that. I also know perfect practice makes perfect! One of my mottos is DGOW (Don’t Get Out Worked). Last, I focus on the phrase, "See a little, See a lot. See a lot, See Nothing." I focus on the basket.
