Ursuline Academy of Dallas celebrated outstanding achievement in world languages at the World Language Awards Ceremony on Friday, September 18. Students studying Chinese, French, and Spanish were recognized for exceptional performances on national and international language assessments taken last spring.

In total, 118 awards were presented, including 19 certificates of recognition for outstanding performance on the Chinese HSK exam, 20 medals from the National French Contest, and 79 medals from the National Spanish Exam.

HSK Chinese Proficiency Test

Last spring, 48 Ursuline Chinese students took the HSK Chinese Proficiency Test at levels one, two, and three. The HSK is an international standardized assessment measuring non-native speakers’ ability to use Chinese in their academic, professional, and everyday lives. Nineteen students received certificates of recognition for their outstanding performances.

National French Contest

In French, 66 students participated in the National French Contest, also known as Le Grand Concours. Sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, the national competition is administered annually to students in grades 6 through 12. Ursuline students earned 20 Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, with each medalist also receiving the distinction of Lauréat National.

National Spanish Exam

Ursuline’s Spanish students also achieved impressive results on the National Spanish Exam, an online standardized assessment sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Of the 333 Ursuline students who took the exam last spring, 197 earned recognition for their scores. At the ceremony, students in Levels 1 through 5 received 79 medals: 12 Gold, 34 Silver, and 33 Bronze.
