The World Language Department celebrated the achievements of students with a ceremony on September 19, 2025. Congratulations to the students who attained recognition for their excellent performance on the 2025 HSK Chinese Proficiency Exam, the National Spanish Exam and the National French Contest!

Ursuline students took the HSK Chinese Proficiency test for levels one, two, three, and six. Nineteen students were awarded special recognition for their scores.

For the National French Contest, twenty French students were awarded a medal and 20 more earned honorable mention. For the National Spanish Exam, another 83 Spanish students were awarded a medal while 106 earned honorable mention.

Students from Ursuline Academy have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Chinese Teachers Esther Bao and Jenny Nai; French teachers, Claudine Saade and Sophie Greene; and Spanish teachers, Roxana Casco, Therese Naddaf, Martha Rico, Rosie Sonneborn, Scarlette Vargas, Maria Alejandra Wallace and Amanda York.

Chinese

The Chinese Proficiency Test, the HSK, is an international standardized Chinese language test to assess the abilities of non-native speakers of Chinese to use Chinese in their daily academic and professional life. The HSK consists of six levels. There were 47 students of Ursuline that took this exam last year for levels one, two, three, and six.

French

The National French Examination, or Le Grand Concours is administered each year in grades 6 through 12 and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Sixty-seven Ursuline Academy French students participated in the 2025 Contest, and nineteen students received medals for their outstanding scores.

Spanish

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. As the largest of their kind in the United States, the NSE attracted over 80,000 student participants in 2025. At Ursuline, 321 students took the exam, and 83 of them earned medals.
