More than 100 Ursuline students gained valuable career experience this summer through internships coordinated by Jennifer Wilson, Student Internship Program Coordinator. From architecture firms to immigration law offices to wildlife conservation programs, students explored future career paths, built professional skills, and reflected on how their experiences connect to Ursuline’s mission of Serviam.

Wilson, who read through each of the students’ reflection essays, said she was struck by the depth of their learning: “So many stood out to me. These students not only developed professional skills but also discovered how their gifts can be used in service to others.”

For Ellie S. ‘26, an internship at the Dallas Zoo offered hands-on training in wildlife conservation and environmental education. By helping guests understand animal behaviors, such as explaining that gorillas’ loud calls can express excitement rather than aggression, Ellie inspired empathy and deeper connections with the natural world. “Confidence comes from passion,” she reflected. “Serving others doesn’t always mean direct help, but empowering people with knowledge and compassion.”

Amy N. ‘26 explored her interest in architecture through an internship at The Beck Group, a design-build firm. She experienced both the design and construction sides of the industry through site visits, charrettes, and professional mentoring. A highlight was collaborating on entrance design options for a new Hard Rock Hotel project along Lake Texoma. “Understanding the stages of designing and building projects will certainly be invaluable for my future career,” Amy shared. She also reflected that the warmth and hospitality of her mentor and colleagues aligned with Serviam: “Their eagerness to provide me with this opportunity was rooted in a genuine desire to support the next generation.”

For Alexandra D. ‘26, her internship with Lopez and Freshwater Immigration Law proved both challenging and deeply meaningful. She supported attorneys with a range of tasks, from researching cases and preparing affidavits to assisting in court. One of the most powerful moments came when she helped draft an affidavit for a local student held in detention. Thanks to her work, the student was released just in time to begin the school year. “Getting to see the change I was making in someone’s life was unforgettable,” Alexandra said. She also used her Spanish skills to connect with clients, often hearing firsthand the extraordinary challenges they had overcome. “Each day, I walked into the office excited to learn and to serve others.”

Through opportunities like these, Ursuline students step beyond the classroom to grow as leaders, collaborators, and servant-hearted professionals. As Wilson reflected, each internship story revealed how young women are preparing not just for careers, but to make a meaningful impact on the world.
