Jonathan Moody Receives Work of Heart Award

Jonathan Moody has been named a recipient of The Catholic Foundation's Work of Heart Award.

Awardees are selected from nominations made by students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members.

"I truly appreciate being recognized," said Moody, who won his first Work of Heart in 2014. "My colleagues here are such a pleasure to work with, and our students are exceptional."

The Work of Heart Award recognizes exceptional teachers who provide a Christian example and work tirelessly for students and the community.

When Jonathan's not teaching sophomores Honors Chemistry, he coaches cross country. The Bears won their third consecutive state title — and fifth in the last six years — in October. It was Ursuline's 15th overall title since 1991, which tied a TAPPS record. Even though the Bears graduated six of their Top 14 runners, the expectations are still high next season.

"The fourth straight title is going to be really tough because we graduated so many, but we'll want to continue to do well," said Moody, who just completed his 12th year at Ursuline.

Dr. Moody is an avid runner. He runs alongside his athletes during practice and with his daughters (age 7 and age 9). He also adds another 15-20 miles every Sunday.

"I run trail races with my daughters, and my son, who is 4, has already done a 1K," Moody said. "I don't want to force running on them, but I know they enjoy it. Running is almost spiritual to me, especially when I'm running on trails. It's a great time for thinking."

Jonathan recently qualified for the 2019 Boston Marathon. It will be his first trip to Boston.

The Work of Heart Award program was established in 2005. The Foundation presents close to 40 Work of Heart Awards each year.

"Ursuline continues to be a place I get excited to drive to each morning," Moody said. "I'm always looking for ways to challenge and inspire my students."
