Ursuline Academy's annual Employee Serviam Day was Friday, February 15.

Employees served 13 local organizations including North Texas Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, The Family Place, Walnut Place, Bonton Farms, Equest, and St. Rita School.

"This year we helped more organizations, and my coworkers left each experience with the biggest smile on their face," Service Coordinator Gabi Merani said. "Volunteering is a powerful thing."

Faculty and staff sorted donations at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store and The Family Place.

"The spirit of Serviam was certainly in the air at Family Place," President Gretchen Kane said. "Ten Ursuline coworkers really got the store in shape, gained a great deal of knowledge about retail, and learned that volunteering is not only rewarding but also fun. Thanks to Gabi Merani for coordinating this wonderful day."

Other employees cleaned barns and fed horses at Equest and gardened and fed baby goats at Bonton Farms. They also tie-dyed t-shirts with residents at Walnut Place and cleaned and polished pews at All Saints.

"It was a privilege to go to the new North Texas Food Bank facility in Plano," Theology Teacher Angie Jakubik said. "We joined with faculty and staff from John Paul II. We worked side-by-side, packing boxes of food for senior citizens, for families with children, and for people served by various partner agencies. We enjoyed showing that all Catholic schools have a strong commitment to serving our community."

Groups also went to the Dog and Kitty City Animal Shelter and Make a Wish.
