Bishop Edward J. Burns will be the celebrant for Ursuline's Feast of St. Angela liturgy on Friday, January 26.

It is the Bishop's first mass at Ursuline. Burns, who was named the new Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas in December 2016, attended his first Ursuline graduation last May.

"It is a joy for our Ursuline school family to have Bishop Edward Burns as our Mass celebrant for the Feast of St. Angela Merici," said Sister Lois Castillon, Ursuline's Director of Mission and Heritage. "Our entire student body welcomes him to our campus."

Ursuline will also celebrate the Golden Jubilee — 50 years of vows — of Sister Madeline Kelly, who graduated from Ursuline Academy of San Antonio but lived in Dallas from 1974-1983. Sister Madeline started working at Ursuline Dallas' grade school and later became head of the high school's art department where she taught fine arts and photography. She was also student council moderator, sophomore moderator, and sophomore retreat director.

"When it came time for me to renew my vows, I knew I wanted to have it done in Dallas, so I could see my students and the faculty," Sister Madeline said. "When I left Dallas years back, I left part of my heart there. I always dreamt of coming back and teaching at the Academy because I valued the students, administration, and, of course, the teachers."

Her art will be displayed in Ursuline's library this month. Sister Madeline, a longtime iconographer, loves creating religious icons. She currently lives in San Antonio and leads prayer and spiritual workshops at St. Brigid Catholic Church. She also visits critically ill patients in their homes.
