Ursuline Seniors Named 2019 National Merit Semifinalists

Congratulations to the seven Ursuline Academy seniors who have been recognized as Semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program!

The seniors are:

  • Morgan Andrulis
  • Mary Chen
  • Sophia Love
  • Rachel Pierce
  • Kaitlynn Soo
  • Emma Tanner
  • Laurel Wood

According to a news release issued by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a total of approximately 16,000 students across the U.S. were named National Merit Semifinalists this year. These seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.

About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

About 1.6 million juniors nationwide entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The Semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and are the highest scoring entrants in each state.
