Sonia Hao '24 Wins First AJGA

Sonia Hao '24 won her first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) at the Payne Stewart Jr. Championship - a very big accomplishment. She won wire to wire by one stroke.

AJGA is a tour with many players from all around the world, and Sonia was proud to see her hard work pay off.

"I feel incredibly blessed and grateful to win my first AJGA," she said. "I've worked very hard and I'm proud of myself for staying calm to keep it together in the final round."

Her dad has always played golf, and one day she decided to try it out. Now, nine years of playing later, she's in love with the sport.

"Some of the best advice I've received are to have fun and enjoy the process of playing," she said. "Instead of focusing on the results, I try to keep a positive attitude because I know golf is not a game of 'perfect.'"

While she doesn't have any pre-tournament traditions, Sonia will typically play two practice rounds to find the best strategies for each course.

"I also try to play the course in my head before the tournament, so I will be more focused and calm," she said.

In addition to golf, Sonia enjoys photography in her free time.
