Yesterday we had the honor and privilege of celebrating nine amazing student athletes who are moving on to play at the next level. I am continually in awe of our girls and the effort, dedication, and determination they display in pursuit of their goals. It was also special to celebrate them on National Girls & Women in Sport Day. In 1972, Title IX was passed, which helped paved the way for females to compete in high school sports, albeit with limited options. Our older generation still recalls their own experiences and lack of opportunity for girls to participate in athletics. To look at the list of prestigious institutions our students are moving on to compete at, I cannot help but be thankful for all the women who have come before and paved the way, making it possible for our girls to achieve what they have in athletics.
I also look forward to the impact all our student athletes will have on the world in coming years. Our Ursuline student-athletes, whether going on to play in college or not, continue to raise the bar in the way they show up not just as athletes, but as young women of character, faith, and demonstrating a high capacity for leadership. This undoubtedly will have a positive impact in our communities and on our families. Thank you to the Ursuline parents and community for entrusting Ursuline Athletics with your daughters. We will continue to work to uphold the mission of Ursuline Academy in all the things we do.
“The mission of Ursuline Academy is the total development of the individual student through spiritual formation, intellectual growth, service to others, and the building of community.”
