The Bear Facts Staff Goes on a Field Trip

The Bear Facts Staff took an exciting field trip recently!

Accompanied by Journalism teacher Melinda Smith and Photography teacher Bill Thompson, the group visited the creative Neiman Marcus Group Services in Downtown Dallas on Friday, January 31.

Neiman Marcus Manager of Brand Marketing and Content and Editorial Strategy and former Bears Facts member Caitlin Murad ’10 welcomed the girls and introduced them to new ways of using their journalism knowledge.

“From social media to window displays to personalized giftbags; it all starts here for all 43 stores in the United States,” she said.

The group visited photography shoots, art studios, and learned about creative thought pits where Neiman Marcus employees sit to generate new and trendy ideas.

They were surprised to learn that the creative thought pit is where the annual Neiman Marcus Christmas Shopping Bag is created. They learned to recognize that so much marketing research and such an extensive refining of details went into seemingly ordinary things.

Susan Risinger, mother of Grace ’20, and the Creative Project Manager for Neiman Marcus Group Services, called attention to successful international advertising campaigns. She also spoke about the recent opening of a Neiman Marcus in New York City, its first.

The enthusiasm and excitement of Caitlin and Susan, along with several other Neiman’s artists and designers, was not lost on the students.

“I think this was my favorite field trip” said Bear Facts Business Manager Kate Janson ’20, “What great jobs!”
