Meet Andrea Pujol, Mathematics

Why she loves Ursuline:

“My students and colleagues make coming to work each day exciting and I am so grateful for the opportunities that this place affords for me to grow personally and professionally,” she said.

Why she loves teaching Math:

“There will always be problems to solve in our lives, whether they involve numbers or not, and math equips people with the critical thinking skills and grit to tackle those problems in a variety of ways,” she said. “I also know that some people do not have the best relationship with numbers, either due to a bad former experience or messaging they've received about their abilities, and I see a big part of my role as doing what I can to help heal some of that damage and guide students to the truth that they can do hard things!”

On her favorite hobby, calligraphy:

Pujol always enjoyed handwriting, but when a friend gifted her a set of dip pens and ink after college, she tried it out, realized she was terrible, and put it away.

A year later, she stumbled back upon the set of pens and ink and decided to try again. After watching some videos, she started to understand how calligraphy is supposed to work and set a goal of opening an Etsy shop.

“I think calligraphy adds a personal touch that you really can't replicate any other way, and I have relished the opportunity to teach some of the basics here at UA,” she said.
