Juniors Presented With UEN Service Award Certificates

On Friday, February 21, Delia O’Sullivan '26 and Kara Cao '26 were presented with The Ursuline Education Network (UEN) Service Award on UA Live. Ursuline President Dr. Andrea Shurley and Sister Lois Castillon, O.S.U. presented the students with the awards, which the UEN gives annually to students who model St. Angela’s 10th Legacy: “Never fail to render your neighbor the services that may depend on you."

Delia reflected on her Sophomore Spring Break trip to Guatemala with the Vivamos Mejor program in her essay, sharing that she "formed a bond with the community that showed me the true spirit of service, working hand in hand with my brothers and sisters in God."

Kara wrote about The Samaritan Within, a non-profit she founded with her father. "To me, our Ursuline motto, Serviam, which means 'I will serve,' is a call for me to utilize my gifts and privileges to create a better world for those who cannot afford the same luxuries I have, so they can," she said. "I cannot fathom what it is like to have no technology, but by engaging and working with the community, I can imagine a world where we are no longer digitally divided, but united—just as St. Angela has asked of us."

The Student Service Awards are awarded to two students who exemplify attributes from the following criteria:

  • is a student who models the teachings of St. Angela Merici; sees a need and puts service into action to resolve a difficult situation.
  • is a leader who can rally others to assist with the “cause” and can work together to achieve the desired goal.
  • an individual who is Christ-like in their approach to need/suffering, someone who puts the needs of others above self
