Esse Receives "Superior" Ranking in the 2020 NCTE REALM Program

ESSE, has been selected to receive the rank of Superior in the 2020 National Council of Teachers in English (NCTE) Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) program.

"From all of us at the NCTE, congratulations to you and your students on this exceptional publication. We commend you for inspiring a love of writing that your students will remember for the rest of their lives." - the announcement from NCTE. 

This issue of the award-winning magazine features a diverse set of work from Ursuline students, including poetry, short stories, plays, photography, and paintings. It is the 54th edition of the magazine.

The works follow the theme of "Voice." Esse 2020 was produced by the Ursuline Literary-Art Magazine Club, which was led by Editor-in-Chief Abigail Mihalic '20 and Art Editor Justine Walker '20. Monica Prachyl Cochran '71 and Kate Kairies Schenck '97 moderated the club.

Esse 2020 was dedicated to English Teacher Kyle Lee, for his ability to foster imagination and instill confidence in his students through his creative writing class. The Esse staff thanks him for all of the time he has spent supporting Ursuline writers and shaping this edition of the magazine.
