Esse Receives Highest Distinction of 1st Place with Special Merit

The American Scholastic Press Association awarded Ursuline's 2020 literary magazine Esse the highest distinction of 1st Place with Special Merit, earning over 950 out of 1,000 points, and the special award of Most Outstanding Literary Magazine of 2020, as one of only six in this category.

This issue of the award-winning magazine features a diverse set of work from Ursuline students, including poetry, short stories, plays, photography, and paintings. It is the 54th edition of the magazine.

The works follow the theme of "Voice." Esse 2020 was produced by the Ursuline Literary-Art Magazine Club, which was led by Editor-in-Chief Abigail Mihalic '20 and Art Editor Justine Walker '20. Monica Prachyl Cochran '71 and Kate Kairies Schenck '97 moderated the club.

Esse 2020 was dedicated to English Teacher Kyle Lee, for his ability to foster imagination and instill confidence in his students through his creative writing class. The Esse staff thanks him for all of the time he has spent supporting Ursuline writers and shaping this edition of the magazine.
