Celebrating Eve Juarez: A Legacy of Innovation, Inspiration, and Empowerment

As Ursuline Academy of Dallas bids farewell to Eve Juarez, we celebrate a remarkable 13-year journey marked by innovation, leadership, and a deep commitment to empowering young women through technology.

Eve’s path to education was anything but conventional. She began her career as a software engineer at E-Systems, where she spent a decade developing cutting-edge software. But it was a volunteer role teaching Sunday school that unexpectedly sparked a new passion: one that would lead her to 14 years in Catholic education and, ultimately, to Ursuline. "But as the saying goes," says Eve," “'If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.'”

Encouraged by her daughter Hannah, a senior at the time, Eve applied for a position in the Computer Science Department. That leap of faith turned into a transformative chapter—not just for Eve, but for the entire Ursuline community. Hannah still jokes that she got Eve the job. Coming to Ursuline also felt like coming full-circle: Eve discovered her passion for computer science in high school, "back in the days of punch cards and BASIC."

As Department Chair, Eve built a dynamic and forward-thinking Computer Science program. Under her leadership, the department expanded its course offerings, introduced AP classes, launched the Applied Robotics and Engineering Design Innovation courses, and created opportunities for students to engage in real-world problem-solving through events like the annual UA Hackathon, which has created some of Eve's favorite memories. "It’s inspiring to watch students voluntarily spend a week tackling real-world challenges," she shared. "Some of my favorite themes have included Disaster Relief, Accessibility, and Eco-Equity—all aligned with Ursuline’s mission of service and justice. These events show students how they can use their skills to make a real difference."

“The most impactful part is helping students realize their own potential. When a student discovers that they can do hard things—and that their voice matters—that’s everything.”

President Dr. Andrea Shurley praised Eve’s legacy at the end-of-year faculty awards and luncheon, noting that she has been “a model of professional growth and lifelong learning,” and that her work has helped Ursuline “grow and thrive.” Eve’s openness to evolving the curriculum, her support of students both in and beyond the classroom, and her unwavering belief in the power of technology for good have left an indelible mark.

Eve’s students have not only learned to code: they’ve learned to lead, to innovate, and to use their skills in service of others. Whether designing solutions for disaster relief, accessibility, or environmental equity, Eve’s students have embodied the Ursuline mission in action.

As she steps into retirement, Eve leaves behind a thriving program and a generation of young women who are more confident, capable, and curious because of her.

Thank you, Eve Juarez, for your vision, your mentorship, and your unwavering belief in the potential of every student. Your legacy will continue to inspire for years to come.
