Career Day Wrap-Up

More than 70 professional Ursuline and Dallas community members presented to the students on Tuesday, March 10. Presenters attending represented diverse career paths and professions, and shed light on their journey to success.

Carolina Thomas '05, Social Media Manager for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, presented virtually via Microsoft Teams all the way from Seattle. "I love that I work in an industry so important to the communication and entertainment for people," she said.

Other special guests included Katie Schemerhorn O'Brien '04 and Kristine Gloria '02 who represented government and technology policy, respectively.

What is Kristine's favorite part of her job as an Assistant Director of Emergent and Intelligent Technologies The Aspen Institute? Getting to meet really fascinating people.

"I enjoy getting an exchange of ideas and developing those ideas into something that we can do together as collaborators or as partners," she said.

Katie's favorite part of the day was interacting with the students and giving them "insight to all of the possibilities open to them," especially in relation to her field, public policy.

In addition to breakout sessions, students also participated in class-specific Professional Development workshops.

Liz Durham '08 presented to the Juniors on college counseling. "Life is not supposed to be easy, but the rollercoaster is the fun part," she reflected with the class. She encouraged students to get involved in as much as they can, build confidence in their own story, and to pick schools that will let them try new things.

Seniors learned from Stella Mulberry Antic '94 and Calvin Colbert about college resources and career transition. Alyssa Strong '10 and Kristin Bender Washington presented on career passions to the Sophomores. The Freshmen learned about the importance of resumes from Elise Holmes Henscheid '04.

It was a great day to expand interests and learn about a variety of career possibilities. A big thank you to all of the 2020 Career Day Presenters! We loved having you on campus. View photo album.
