A Letter from the President

Dear Ursuline Family,

We find ourselves at the close of our fall semester, and it has been a busy and joyful time! It is a bit of a shock to realize where we are in the calendar, because August does not feel that long ago. There is much to look back on in this school year with gratitude. Our seniors are leading with beautiful energy, and our freshmen are making their mark as a class. Our sophomores are appreciating that they know what they are doing and what is to come in the school year, and our juniors are beginning to lift their eyes and think more about their future. We all know that the four years of high school go by quickly. I see this in the wide eyes of our girls when they realize where they are in their journey, and in the excitement and occasionally damp eyes of our parents as they look at their daughters in amazement. As parents, we time travel frequently; it is easy to look at our teenager and still see our toddler. What a gift, although occasionally bittersweet!

This time of year can feel so busy. Our days are filled with an abundance of good things – Christmas parties, Advent services, holiday concerts, light shows, and happily finding the perfect gifts for the ones we love. I am sure I am not alone in feeling like it is all happening in a wonderful but fast blur. I try to force a pause when I have the wherewithal to recognize I am moving too fast. Sometimes, it is just closing my eyes and whispering to myself, "Be still, and know that I am God,” and taking a few deep breaths. God has us in His hands! This is a reminder of the true essence of Advent—a season of waiting and anticipation—a season of space.

Just as we eagerly await the celebration of Christmas, we also look forward to the arrival of the Christ child, who brings light and love into our lives. This special time of waiting invites us to slow down, embrace the stillness, and open our hearts to the profound joy that comes with the birth of Jesus. Let us cherish these moments of anticipation, knowing that in our waiting, we are preparing to welcome the greatest gift of all—God's love manifesting in the Christ child.

On behalf of all of us at the Academy, may the joy and peace of Christ be with you all this Christmas season and always!

Yours in Serviam,

Andrea Shurley
