Ursuline’s innovative use of laptop technology encourages self-directed and collaborative learning through idea and information sharing. Leading-edge technology tools connect students to nearly limitless education resources. A wireless network makes it possible for students to access online resources from anywhere on campus. Key features include:

State of the Art Laptop
Every incoming student is required to purchase a state-of-the-art laptop computer issued by Ursuline. The selected device for the Class of 2022 is the Microsoft Surface Book 2, a tablet with a detachable keyboard and digital pen to facilitate maximum creativity and versatility. The 6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8GB memory, and 256GB SSD provide superior performance and reliability, capable of handling 3D graphics, animations, light video rendering, and engineering programs.


Onsite Services
Onsite services are an essential part of the 1:1 Laptop program at Ursuline. Our in-house technician provides laptop support and diagnostics for students, faculty, and the Academy's various vendors.

Microsoft Warranty
Details of the four-year warranty are as follows:

  • Each device is covered individually by serial number.
  • Any warranty issue, including failing batteries, dead pixels, touchscreen issues, etc., is included.
  • Damage of any kind of break, shattered screen, water or other destruction, is covered.
  • There are no deductibles for any claim under this warranty.
  • Devices can be replaced twice for damage in the coverage period (4 years), per serial number.

Loss and/or theft are NOT covered by this protection plan.

Students who use laptops as an everyday learning tool become better writers and more collaborative learners. They are energized and invest more effort into the quality of their work. Faculty also benefit from the program. Through continuing training, teachers are encouraged to explore new techniques to enhance their curriculum by integrating technology into the process.

Hot Spare Loaners
Should repair require replacement parts and/or time to repair, Ursuline Academy will provide the student with a Hot Spare until the repair is completed. The Hot Spare computers are the same model computer the student is using, allowing for a seamless transition and minimal downtime.

Microsoft Office 365
Every student will be setup with their own Office 365 account from Microsoft. In addition to their own unique email address, students can take advantage of OneDrive which provides 1TB of storage to save important documents. The OneDrive solution is cloud based which allows students anywhere and anytime access to their data.

Microsoft Office ProPlus
A complete version of Microsoft Office Professional Plus is installed on every computer. This fully-licensed version of Office allows students to take advantage of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and many other features to help achieve their academic goals.

Laptop FAQs

What are the Student Help Desk Hours?

Student Help Desk hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

What do I do if my machine is broken?

Take it to the Student Help Desk. Be sure you sign in and that you do NOT leave your machine unless a staff member is there to receive it. Paperwork will need to be filled out to explain the problem in detail.

What do I do if my laptop is missing or stolen?

Go immediately to the Help Desk. Lost or unattended machines are turned in there. If the machine has not been turned in, the Director of Security, can perform a search for you. If the laptop is stolen and cannot be recovered, you can get insurance information from the Student Help Desk.

How do I know if my machine or part is ready?

You will be notified via your Ursuline email address when you have parts ready for installation or your machine is completed and ready for pickup. You can always stop by the Help Desk, too.

Who can help with laptops?

For any problem with your laptop, go to the Student Help Desk.

What is Ursuline's policy on pirated downloads?

Downloading pirated music, videos, applications, and software is considered stealing intellectual property and is a Federal crime. Ursuline Academy prohibits the downloading of such items as well as having p2p sharing programs on laptops (these programs include such as Kazaa, Morpheus, BitTorrent, Grokster, Audiogalaxy, etc.) After signing the mandatory enrollment agreement, if any such program is found on a student's laptop, the student will receive an infraction for the first offense, and any subsequent incidents will result in a meeting with the Director of Technology and/or Academic Dean and a possible suspension.

What if I can't access my e-mail account?

All students at Ursuline Academy have e-mail accounts. The technology department is in charge of setting up of e-mail accounts. If you have any questions involving school e-mail, go to the Student Help Desk.

Ursuline's pioneering approach to the use of laptop computers has become a model for schools across the U.S. and around the world. Since the program's inception, the Academy has hosted more than 4,000 educators and others to share information about the technology program.

All new students are required to purchase a laptop computer through the Academy's laptop purchase program. The cost of the laptop package is not considered in financial assistance decisions.
