Retreat Coordinator/Theology Teacher

Overview: The Retreat Coordinator serves as a member of the Campus Ministry team at Ursuline Academy of Dallas, as well as a member of the Theology department. The Retreat Coordinator teaches three classes in addition to fulfilling duties regarding Ursuline’s retreat program. The Retreat Coordinator is responsible for the planning and implementation of retreats throughout the school year. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes have one class retreat, while the Senior class attends two retreats each year. The Retreat Coordinator is also responsible for the planning of the annual Employee retreat. The Retreat Coordinator works closely with the other members of the Campus Ministry Team (the Pastoral Life Coordinator and Service Coordinator), as well as the Director of Mission and Heritage.

General Authority: The Retreat Coordinator reports to the Principal, meeting with the Principal regularly. The Retreat Coordinator also reports to the Theology Department Chair.

Key Accountabilities: Responsibilities of the Retreat Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:

·         Secure the venues and transportation for all retreats

·         Ensure deposits and payments are made to retreat sites and bus company

·         Work with the Campus Ministry Administrative Assistant in publishing and organizing retreat permission forms and medication forms

·         Oversee the organization of cabin assignments, bus assignments, and small group assignments

·         Work with staff at retreat sites to ensure proper accommodations and set-up

·         Coordinate teacher chaperones for all retreats, complying with Safe Environment numbers and standards

·         Coordinate student small group leaders

·         Schedule and coordinate all speakers on retreats, including student witness talks, adult witness talks, guests speakers, and musicians

·         Arrange for priests to visit retreats for Mass, Adoration, and Confession

·         Secure payment for any visiting priest or guest speaker

·         Develop the schedule and small group questions for retreats

·         Facilitate and lead all retreats

·         Develop a yearly budget for the Retreat Program and ensure that the program stays within this budget

Experience and Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Studies, or a related field from an accredited Catholic university; further degrees are preferred

·         Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church

·         Experience working with youth in a ministry setting

·         Experience planning retreat programs

·         Strong organizational and communication skills

·         At least two years teaching experience in Theology at the secondary school level and in-depth knowledge of subject matter

·         A commitment to accompanying students along their journeys of faith and forming intentional disciples

·         The flexibility to teach a variety of theology courses and grade levels

·         An enthusiasm for collaboration and participation in a community of learners who are excited to grow and engage in giving and receiving feedback

·         A forward-looking energy for thoughtful innovation

·         An understanding of the importance of cultivating student well-being in girls and creating an inclusive, equitable classroom

·         The dedication to ensure the spirit and life of the school mission

In addition to classroom responsibilities, full-time teachers at Ursuline Academy serve as advisors, actively participate in non-academic student activities such as moderating clubs, chaperoning events, and student supervision, and enthusiastically pursue professional development opportunities as they join a Catholic, independent school culture.

Teaching experience in a Catholic and/or independent school and/or all girls’ environment is strongly preferred.
