Ursuline Academy of Dallas is an independent Catholic college preparatory school for young women in grades 9-12. Educating students for 145 years, the Academy is the oldest continuously operating school in Dallas. With a distinguished tradition of academic excellence, innovation, and service, Ursuline educates young women for leadership in a global society.

In 2018, Ursuline launched the quiet phase of a significant comprehensive campaign, which will generate financial support for its endowment, operational priorities, and transformational enhancements to its physical campus.To support this campaign and the long-term engagement of alumnae, parents, and friends of the school, Ursuline seeks a talented and experienced individual to join the team as Director of Development.

Position Description

The Director of Development is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of constituents with the potential to support Ursuline Academy with commitments of <$50,000.In partnership with a second Director of Development, this position will have primary responsibility for meeting the Academy's annual, operational fundraising goals as established by the President and Chief Development Officer.Simultaneously, the Director will be responsible for identifying constituents who are capable of supporting the Academy with major gifts and partnering with the Chief Development Officer and Senior Director of Development to develop appropriate strategies for cultivating additional support. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.This is a 12-month exempt position.


Meet the Academy's annual, operational fundraising goals, as established by the President and Chief Development Officer.This may include contributions to The Ursuline Fund, scholarship support, and other priorities as established by school leadership.

Manages a portfolio of constituents (alumnae, parents, grandparents, parents of alumnae, and friends) and is responsible for developing relationships that result in life-long affinity and financial support for the Academy.Manages relationships with a donor-centric mindset that encourages financial support toward school priorities while simultaneously fulfilling donor philanthropic objectives.

Accountable for prospect management activity that is measured through metrics related to prospect visits, substantive interactions, and gift closures.Responsible for the documentation of all activity and constituent contact in the school's prospect management database.Participates in regular prospect management reviews with supervisor and fundraising team to develop identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

Partners closely with the Director of Volunteer Relations and Development Events to meet the fundraising objectives for Ursuline's annual auction, which currently raises operational support for scholarships.Responsible for overseeing all event underwriting activity including volunteer management, prospect identification, solicitation, stewardship, and execution of benefits.Supports the Director of Volunteer Relations and Development Events in the execution of event-based solicitation strategies as needed.

Partners closely with Development team members and Academy leadership to ensure that communications with constituents are coordinated, strategic, and exemplify professional fundraising standards.Generates proactive internal communications to inform teammates of activity.

Prepare regular reports to demonstrate progress toward fundraising objectives.

Some evening/weekend work and travel will be required.

Education, Experience, Qualification, and Skills

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of work experience are required.

Proven experience delivering results in an annual and/or major gift fundraising or sales function is highly desirable. Knowledge of fundraising and portfolio management principles are essential.

Professional work experience in an educational institution or nonprofit organization is preferred.Familiarity with independent and/or Catholic schools is desirable.

Candidate must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to forge strong working relationships and manage interests of multiple stakeholders. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must demonstrate strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze problems and devise solutions. Strong analytical skills and the ability to think collaboratively, strategically and creatively, while participating in decision-making, is essential.

Candidate must have strong organizational and planning skills. Must also be a motivated self-starter who takes initiative, anticipates challenges, and follows through. Strong project management skills are essential.

Candidate must have the ability to articulate a persuasive case for support, develop appropriate cultivation strategies, and solicit donors in a timely fashion.

Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Experience working with a constituent database (i.e., Raiser's Edge, etc.) for prospect management highly preferred.
