UA Unveils St. Ursula Statue

Ursuline’s new statue recognizes a familiar name.

The St. Ursula statue, located near the entrance of The French Family Science, Math, and Technology Center, joins six historic statues already on campus.

One hand holds the palm of victory, and the other hand holds the sacred heart of Jesus.

“Several parents, coworkers, and students have noticed this lovely addition and have asked me about it,” said Sister Lois Castillon, who is the school’s Director of Mission and Heritage. “We continue to be united in St. Ursula’s ongoing protection of our future.”

St. Ursula was the patroness of the Order of St. Ursula (O.S.U.), the religious order of our Ursuline Sisters. Ursula gathered around her many companions and formed them to know and love Christ.

Ursuline honors her every year with a mass. Students also say her name in an end-of-school prayer:

St. Angela, watch over the days of our youth;
St. Ursula, protect our future.

The statue sits on a pedestal and is surrounded by lavender. A sign reading, “St. Ursula, protect our future” will soon be added to the front of the statue.

“We are grateful to our Facilities Department for cleaning and painting this historic statue of St. Ursula and preparing a pedestal for her," Sister Lois said. “It truly is a beautiful statue.”
