Technology

Anywhere, Anytime Learning extends the boundaries of learning beyond the traditional classroom. The program uses modern technology to enhance and accelerate the learning process for our students. It supports Ursuline Academy's mission to prepare young women to think critically and act responsibly in a global society.

Laptop technology encourages self-directed and collaborative learning, through idea and information sharing. Leading-edge technology tools connect students to nearly limitless education resources. A wireless local area network makes it possible for students to access Ursuline resources, the library and the Internet from anywhere on campus.

Students who use laptops as an everyday learning tool become better writers and more collaborative learners. They are energized and invest more effort into the quality of their work. Grades improve along with self-esteem.

Faculty also benefit from the program. Through continuing training, teachers are encouraged to explore new techniques to enhance their curriculum by integrating technology into the process. Ursuline's unique and comprehensive approach to professional development has been cited as a role model for other schools.

Ursuline's pioneering approach to the use of laptop computers has become a model for schools across the U.S. and around the world. Since the program's inception, the Academy has hosted more than 4000 educators and others to share information about the technology program.

The Computerworld Smithsonian Awards named Ursuline a 1998 Laureate as an "innovative user of information technology." The technology program was also recognized as a Selected Program for Improving Catholic Education at the 1999 SPICE Symposium, sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association.
