| About Ursuline Ursuline Academy of Dallas is an independent Catholic college preparatory school for young women in grades 9-12. Educating students for more than 130 years, the Academy is the oldest continuously operating school in Dallas. With a distinguished tradition of academic excellence, innovation and service, Ursuline educates young women for leadership in a global society. Ursuline's heritage is rooted in the founding of the Ursuline Order by Angela Merici in Brescia, Italy, in 1535. The vision of Angela spread throughout Europe and beyond – the Ursulines were the first religious order to reach the New World. Six pioneering Ursuline Sisters established Ursuline Academy in 1874, back when Dallas was little more than a frontier town. Today, enrollment at Ursuline Academy totals 800 young women. The student community reflects the widely varied ethnicity of the Dallas - Fort Worth area. Minority enrollment at the Academy is about 24%. This year, the Academy will grant financial assistance and scholarship awards to approximately 21% of the total student body. Ursuline's Students Reach Out (SRO) club was named Outstanding Volunteer Youth Group in Dallas for 2003 by the Volunteer Center of Dallas County. In 2003-04, Ursuline students donated 41,153 hours to help their neighbors in need. They served 150 non-profit agencies, working in the Dallas metropolitan area, New York and internationally in Russia and Mexico. For additional information see the 2007-08 Academy Profile.
